Fairly-Easy => When talking about healthy drinks, nothing can rival the greatness of the white water. But
lately the problem arises because most bottled mineral water made of
plastic, which could be expected to 'contaminate' the properties of
water. So what to do?
"In general, bottled mineral water is safe for consumption., But it depends on what type of plastic used to make the bottle," said Michael Moore, a professor of toxicology at the University of Queensland, as quoted by ABC Australia, Wednesday (06/04/2014 ).
Most of the mineral water bottles made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET or PETE), which is inexpensive and lightweight plastics with recycling code 1. Codes can be found at the bottom of the plastic packaging, the figure is located in the middle of a sort of triangle shaped symbol.
"PET is not a type of plastic that can cause certain problems," added Moore. The FDA also agreed with said bottles made from PET plastic as long as it is safe to use repeatedly washed properly with soap and water so that the bacteria is gone.
Moore also heard when the security bottles made from PET plastic is starting to be questioned when a study in 2001 found a 'trace' phthalate contained in mineral water PET bottle packaging. Phthalate commonly used to make plastics more flexible so.
But Moore denied and said that if PET is never contain phthalates, plastic name except that it contains the word 'phthalate'.
The only substance that might 'contaminate' water PET bottle is packed with antimony. But once again Moore explains when antimony is not pose certain health risks such as lead or mercury.
But if you prefer to buy a regular plastic drinking bottles are mostly made of polycarbonate, there is one thing to note. Polycarbonate made from bisphenol A (BPA), which can 'contaminate' bottled drinking water, especially if the bottle is heated or washed repeatedly. In the standardized drink bottles, usually listed numbered 7 recycling code for this bottle of drink made from polycarbonate.
"But because there is BPA in the water, does not mean it's dangerous you know. From various research about BPA conducted on animals, BPA does cause a variety of disorders such as cancer, diabetes, obesity and reproductive and developmental disorders., But this effect does not necessarily occur in humans , "said Moore.
In other words, BPA contained in plastic drinking bottles of this kind is too low to cause health problems in people who drink it.
"The danger was that the plastic made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), with recycling code numbered 3. Fortunately PVC is not often used to produce bottles of drink," added Moore.
